Nobody called the Internet Web2. There was no universal internet slang or "cool" digital personas. There were just humans, facing a new technological tool developed for communication across the globe.
People didn't surf trends or rebrand themselves every few months depending on the stock prices in Wall Street. They didn't latch onto new vocabulary, or new words invented for the purpose of digital marketing.
Nobody called the internet Web2 or thought they had to because they weren't selling it.
It was a new tool that THEY KNEW every human being would benefit from. There were no UX analytic jobs, no making it pretty to maximize the dopamine, and no lingo switching to "Connect w/ Gen-Z".
We just collectively chose to believe the "internet" exists.
Just like water droplets nourish a plant, our collective thoughts have nurtured the belief in the digital world, turning what began as fiction and delusion into an agreed-upon reality that thrives today.
Before the internet existed, we paid for television advertisements.
Today the digital world, is an infinite landscape where YOUR ADs can be posted on any fence, block, or next to any business gate-free, FOR FREE. No permits are needed, no middle man required. Anyone can freely make a social media account, post items or services or things and find other people who care.
This free land wasn't instantly taken advantage of though, no. The new digital tools providing fuel to the internet were looked over very much as simple "blogs/video sharing websites".
But now with blockchain and crypto, the internet isn't just the internet anymore to many of the people in this digital space, they call it "Web3".
The name of the extension plugged into the "old internet", this plugin's equipped with new accounts that store digital money, digital art, and passwords to new types of applications.
We’re run down the path head first into the “minimally decentralized” use cases. But it doesn't matter.
Because finance and economical standards drive the language, and not the need to wage war against every single centralized entity. There's nothing wrong with the Monopoly board, but there are a few things that we personally want to change.
Bitcoin is the anti-thesis to banks.
Blockchain is the anti-thesis to Education.
No longer are $15,000 tuitions and $500 ebooks justifiable. Replication is free digitally, and distribution is also free. Just as they have always been since the internet's inception. So this same old digital world this same old internet has the ability to connect to blockchains... how will you use it best?
And a small rudder makes a huge ship turn wherever the pilot chooses to go, even though the winds are strong. In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. - James 3:4-5
It's imperative we become more critical of the language we're using, as it can steer our future to many different outcomes. Law of Manifestation.
A Bible Quote on Bitterness..
▼James 3:7-14
7 People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish,
8 but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison.
9 Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God.
10 And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right!
11 Does a spring of water bubble out with both fresh water and bitter water?
12 Does a fig tree produce olives, or a grapevine produce figs? No, and you can’t draw fresh water from a salty spring.
13 If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.
14 But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don’t cover up the truth with boasting and lying.
Nobody called the internet web2, and I'd like to avoid mistruthed slang surrounding my passion. But as the Web3 extension expands our digital horizon, our ideas of growing the way we connect via this semi-fictious world will continue to proliferate. The collective ideas have evolved from generated artwork, to psuedo-businesses, to memecoins, to AI Agents.
This all illustrates a deeper, subconscious desire for a utility or mechanism from these digital add-ons that, brightens lives and feelings of fulfillment worldwide.
We are building onchain; a new path to innovation, creativity, and freedom.
